THIS AINT YOUR FATHER'S WHITE SHIRT

So, lets talk trends. One of the today's hugest trends doesn’t come from the runways of Milan or from inner city New York, for example the Louis Vutton dollar store bag from spring 2007 that I still can’t get over.

Major retailers seem to be the marrying type of sorts. Top 7th avenue designers are lending their couture fashion skills to mass retailers. First, it started with Target when it carried limited edition pieces from top designers such as Cynthia Rowley and Isaac Mizrahi. Then H&M joined in the fun when they partnered with the likes of Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney with their exclusive lines (I still remember the crowds outside the fifth avenue store last year). They did it again this year with Viktor and Rolf and once again most recently with Madonna (although I guess you can’t really consider her a designer, but she has been a style icon for many years.) The latest is the partnership with the CFDA, Vogue Fund, and the Gap. Yes, I said it the Gap. The mass retailer known for relaxed casual styles commissioned a team of young designers to produce a limited edition line of white shirts. Doo Ri, Rodarte, and Thankoon, all designed a white shirt for the Gap that went on sale in New York stores and Gap online last week. As you can probably expect, most styles are all sold out. See my favorate by Thakoon below.

Some argue that for designers to design for mass retailers takes away from their prestige, others think that it's great for us mere mortals to be able to afford these looks. What do you guys think?

STREET WALKER

So this week I have finally began to shop for spring clothes. I personally have a hard time getting ready for spring when the thermometer is stuck on 40. I got a wake up call when I looked at the calendar and realized my birthday is less than a month away. Shot out to all Taurus'. So in my first installment of spring fashion guide here are a few of my picks for street fashion. For us corporate girls, this is the stuff we can wear on the weekends.

1. There were so many cute items from music and style icon Gwen Stephani’s fashion interpretation. I would describe the spring 07 L.A.M.B. line as Safari Funk. The color palette was khaki, green, yellow and red. The tights below can be worn under a denim mini skirt or alone with a tunic length tee.

2. This item covers two of the season’s biggest trends, woven leather and metallic. Gold is always a great accent to denim. These would go hot with my chocolate silk short shorts I got from BCBG last summer.

3. The striped tank is strong this season. Pair it with skinny jeans or loose fitting cropped pants and a killer heal. Once you add a wrist full of bangles and large hoop earrings you are ready to parking lot pimp.

4. The dress below is a cute little throw on piece that you can wear with flats or heels. It looks sporty and girly at the same time.

5. This hot top is perfect for the mall or the club. Throw on a long necklace and make it street couture.

SPRING CLEANING

In order for you to be ready for the next season you have to clean out your closet. Take inventory throw out the crap. Toss those gauchos (that didn’t really work with your shape anyway) or that graphic t-shirt (that made you look like a high school junior) and donate it. In life, just like fashion, in order to stay ready for what's new you have to make edits. Otherwise you are constantly buried under old stuff. Now I am not saying get rid of everything. I don't know about you but I don't have the time or money to buy a new wardrobe every season but, do hang on to the key pieces that work. Once you do that you can go ahead and build on those staples. Stock up on the latest trends and continue being the best you, you can be. I've provided a short list where you can get started.
